From 1A to 5B: How your Swedish grows with SpeakCharlie

Level 1A–1D (CEFR A1–A2): Finding your words

Jag lär mig svenska. Det är svårt men roligt. Jag går på kurs varje vecka. Jag vill prata med mina kollegor på jobbet.

At this stage, you’re learning to speak in simple sentences and make yourself understood. You can greet people, order coffee, and talk about your daily life. In class, you listen, repeat, and build confidence through short conversations — not grammar drills.

Many learners who use apps like Duolingo reach roughly this level — A2 (or sometimes B1). To go further, you need real speaking, listening, and interaction — exactly what we focus on at SpeakCharlie.

Focus: everyday words, basic verbs, simple communication.

Level 2A–2D (CEFR A2–B1): Building your voice

Jag har studerat svenska i tre månader nu. I början var det väldigt svårt att förstå, men nu kan jag prata lite mer varje dag. Jag tittar på svenska serier och försöker skriva mejl på svenska till mina kollegor.

Now you start to expand your comfort zone — you can describe experiences, express opinions, and handle small talk with confidence. You’re still learning, but your Swedish starts to sound more natural. In class, you practice short dialogues from real work situations: emails, meetings, introductions.

Focus: connecting sentences, using different tenses, expressing feelings.

Level 3A–3D (CEFR B2–C1): Communicating with impact

Att lära sig svenska är en stor utmaning men också väldigt givande. I början kände jag mig osäker, men nu kan jag delta i möten och förstå det mesta som sägs. Jag gör fortfarande många misstag, men jag märker att jag lär mig något nytt varje vecka. Språket öppnar verkligen dörrar till nya människor och nya idéer.

By this level, you can lead conversations, give presentations, and explain complex ideas. You understand humor and tone, and your Swedish reflects your personality. In class, you fine-tune pronunciation, debate real topics, and learn to sound both confident and polite — like a pro in the Swedish workplace.

Focus: fluency, confidence, and adapting to professional situations.

Level 4A–4D (CEFR C1–C2): Thinking in Swedish

Att lära sig ett nytt språk är som att långsamt bygga ett nytt sätt att tänka. Jag märker hur mitt perspektiv förändras när jag använder svenska – vissa ord känns mer exakta, andra mer begränsande. Det handlar inte längre bara om att kommunicera, utan om att förstå människor på deras eget språk, i deras kulturella kontext.

At this stage, Swedish is no longer just a skill — it’s a tool for thinking, persuading, and connecting. You can lead meetings, negotiate, or write reports that capture nuance.

Coaches work with you on intonation, cultural subtleties, and stylistic flow, so your communication feels both authentic and effortless.

Focus: advanced precision, tone, and cultural understanding.

Level 5A–5B (CEFR C2): Mastery and identity

Att bemästra ett språk är att bemästra ett sätt att tolka världen. De första månadernas kamp med grammatik känns nu avlägsen; det intressanta är hur svenskan har format mitt sätt att tänka. Jag upptäcker nyanser i samtal – ironin, den underförstådda vänligheten, den tysta pausen som betyder mer än ord.

Welcome to fluency that feels natural. At this level, you don’t just speak Swedish — you live it. You can express humor, irony, and subtlety; you feel at home switching between cultural and professional contexts.
