Meet Tania: From Transylvania to Sweden: a path into language coaching

Tania was born and raised in Transylvania, Romania, but over 20 years ago she made Sweden her home. Her lifelong love for languages made the transition smoother, but she still remembers the challenges of learning Swedish as an adult. That experience shaped her empathy and gave her unique insights into what it really takes to succeed in language learning and integration.

“Having gone through that process myself, I know exactly what it means to face the challenges of language learning. This background gives me both empathy and practical insight, which I bring into every coaching session,” Tania says.

Becoming a language coach

With her passion for languages and her personal experience of adapting to Swedish society, Tania found her calling in helping others navigate the same path. At SpeakCharlie, she now supports learners not only with grammar and vocabulary, but also with the cultural understanding that makes language come alive.

The joy of coaching

For Tania, coaching Swedish is more than just a job, it’s deeply fulfilling. She loves witnessing the moment learners go from zero knowledge to being able to talk about their lives, families, jobs, and hobbies.

“Every milestone, big or small, feels meaningful, and I feel proud to be part of that journey,” she says with a smile.

Overcoming challenges

Many learners start out afraid of making mistakes, which can hold back their progress. Tania understands this well from her own experience. Her approach is to reframe mistakes as a natural, and even necessary, part of learning.

“Progress comes step by step,” she explains. “Confidence grows the more you practice.”

What makes SpeakCharlie unique

According to Tania, it’s the personal and interactive nature of the coaching. Instead of focusing solely on grammar and vocabulary, SpeakCharlie’s method helps participants feel at home in a new language and culture. Sessions are always tailored to individual needs, making the learning more relevant and motivating.

Unforgettable moments

What Tania loves most are those breakthrough moments - when a learner realizes they can express themselves in a meaningful way for the first time.

“Whether it’s joking with a colleague, handling a work situation, or talking about family, that ‘aha’ moment when they see themselves as capable Swedish speakers is unforgettable,” she says.

Language, culture, and confidence

Tania has seen first-hand how language learning transforms people’s confidence at work. Being able to express oneself in Swedish leads to greater engagement both professionally and socially.

But she also stresses that learning a language isn’t just about words - it’s about understanding the culture behind them. “To me, learning a language goes hand in hand with understanding the culture of that language. This cultural insight is just as valuable as the ability to communicate.”
